It’s almost that time again!

Fall lessons are just around the corner, and there are so many exciting things happening this year, I can hardly wait to get started!

For those students who are returning, you will remember the 60 second club challenge and the amazing race (a new, updated version!) which will be beginning again in the fall. However, this year I’ve added an entire BOOKLET of challenges you can take on for prizes and delicious treats!! Also, my fun music library has expanded for both piano and voice lessons, so students who regularly practice their assigned repertoire will be rewarded with a week off with fun music to learn every once in a while.

There WILL be a Halloween recital (dress-up mandatory :)!), date TBA, and our Christmas recital will be scheduled sometime on the 2nd or 3rd weekend of December.

Parents are also reminded of the missed lesson policy: I am required to make up or refund any lessons I miss. Student missed lessons are not required to be made up, and while I do what I can, do to the sheer number of students I have, I can only make up ONE STUDENT MISSED LESSON per semester, excepting rare circumstances, which I encourage you to speak with me directly about.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at musickelowna@gmail.com.

I look forward to another wonderful year of music making!

Media Revamp, Kindermusik Returns!

2014 is hot off the press, and I am excited to let you know about some of my upcoming plans!

First of all, Kindermusik is BACK! I will be offering a family style class for 0-5 years in May as part of its introduction to the Kelowna Community Music School’s music programs. This will be a low flat fee cost for families of all sizes, but space is limited, so be sure to register quickly! We are also excited about a summer music camp slotted for the second week of July – stay tuned for more details!

In other news, I will be adding a youtube channel to my website as a reference for students. There will be recordings and videos of pieces specific to my students’ repertoire, and a variety of warm-up recordings as well for my voice students. Keep checking back over the next few months for updates!

Games, Games, Games!

Sometimes it seems nearly impossible to rip our children away from their computer/ipad/phone to focus on practice. Recently, I discovered a really neat site with a TON of music games that can now turn that screen time into learning time! Check out http://www.musicgames.co/games-by-tag/piano/ and see what you think!

This just in!

Exciting news for Derrick Piano Studio!

For the fall of 2013, I will be teaching piano AND voice (musical theatre) at the Kelowna Community Music School! Musical Theatre voice classes will be held on Fridays after school. If you are interested, please contact me for more information!

Also, there are very few slots left for piano lessons! Starting May 1st, I will be opening those slots up to new students, so if you wish to return for lessons in the fall, please let me know so we can secure a spot for you! 🙂

Congratulations!

Congratulations to all the Kiwanis Festival participants! Everyone did so well, and I am so proud!

Out of the participants, we had 3 Firsts, 4 Seconds, and 1 Third. An excellent showing by all!

Scheduling for 2013/2014 is now open!

I know it seems early, but requests for fall lessons are already coming in, and I want to make sure you get first choice!

If you would like to continue lessons in the fall, please let me know so I can make sure you get the spot you want! All time slots are reassigned every year, so you have the option to switch days and times if you wish.

Once your spot is reserved, it is yours until the 30th of June, at which point, if pre-registration has not been paid, it will be lost.

Its already shaping up to be a fantastic year!
